There is something about the sound of metal taps on a hardwood floor; something about dancing AND creating music simultaneously.
When I am happy, tap dancing is a natural expression of my joy.
When I am sad, tap dancing seems to express the deeper hurt that is so often inexpressible in words…
In frustration, tap dancing allows me to rage against all that is unfair…
To respectfully vent that negative energy in a way that is brutally honest
Tap dancing allows me to worship God, to become attuned to that deep connection that we all have with him and one another
Finally, tap dancing allows me to be free…
To live completely in the present without regarding what I am going through, what has already happened, or what will…
It is my connection.
Taps

Tap makes me happy too—it makes my face smile; it makes my heart smile; it makes my soul smile. God created us in His image – we are rhythmic creatures by nature; so it is a natural means of expression. I agree that if I’m down and out, I can express my innermost feelings through the sounds and movements I make when tapping. It’s contagious – I love it.
Thanks

Thanks for the post Thomas. Tap dancing can be such a great help in learning the footwork for other dance styles as well. I mean, who has more intricate footwork that a percussive dancer, you know?

Tap dancing. Makes me feel free there are no limits. Sure you may have an instructor but at the end of the day when they’re gone its just you and those shoes and your the ones that make that lovely music!

Tap. After a stressful week tap is my remedy it allows me to forget everything and just live in the rhythm I am making with my feet. It can express all my inner emotions I wouldn’t usually let show.

tap dancing… releases the emotions gathered during the day and allows you to just scatter those and other issues on a nice wooden/dance floor and forget for a while. It makes you appreciate rhythm and music/percussion in general. i heart tap.

I’m from NJ. I’m 16, My name is Chelsea, and I’ve been a tapper for fourteen LOVELY years. It’s my favorite thing to do, I dance six days a week. I’m involved in the Outstanding Teen system in the Miss America Organization. My talent is always a tap routine. I competed in a dance competition for Dancers Inc in December and i got a gold medal and 3rd place overall
Being able to move your feet and hear all those different sounds is really astonishing. I love it so much, I will never stop!
