Tap Dancing In New York: Terrence Taps (Part 2)

This is the second post in a two-part series covering my recent performance in New York city for the Sphatika launch. (View the first post here.)

On Monday evening, June 30th I performed in the incredibly beautiful Rainbow Room on the 65th floor of the Rockefeller building (30 Rock). The room offers a panoramic view of the entire city, dazzling lighting, and most importantly for tap dancers, a revolving wooden dance floor.

I used a large, empty meeting room located on the 64th floor to warm up and was treated to great view of the sun setting over Manhattan.

Prior to my performance I learned that Phylicia Rashad was there…in fact she MC’d the event and even introduced my segment. I danced on A-Train before a very warm and receptive audience. By all measures the event was a great success.

After sticking around to jam with the incredible musicians at the Rainbow Room, I caught a cab downtown to meet with Carl of Carl’s Jazz Dance Blog at a spot called Banjo Jim’s.

Every Monday night, Lindy Hoppers gather there to dance the night away accompanied by outstanding musicians. They were a joy to watch and even invited me to perform for them. If you’re ever in New York you should definitely check them out. They often feature tap dancers so bring your shoes.

All in all, it was a great trip. If you are looking for a tap dancer for your launch, keep me in mind.

My new motto: “Have Tap Shoes, Will Travel!”
