Masters of Tap, Tap Video Clips

Peg Leg Bates

I am excited to finally be able to post a clip of Clayton ‘Peg Leg’ Bates! Back in August I mentioned that tap dancer Nicholas Young shared a ‘Peg Leg’ Bates clip in his class at the Southeastern Tap Explosion. Well, here is the clip that he shared.

This is actually the longest video clip of him performing that I have ever seen. Before this video I had always relied on other people’s descriptions of how he danced.

If you have never heard of ‘Peg Leg’ Bates or his story check out the Buckles Web Log. That’s also where I got this really cool picture featured above.

You’ve completely blown my mind, can hardly believe my eyes. Was a young lad when first I witnessed ‘Peg Leg’ on Ed Sullivan; was inspired and soon became a ‘tap dancing’ choreographer with a life long career strutting my taps in many and various venues but had most fun ‘busking’ in my forties on an eastcoast waterfront for the many and varied tourists hailing from around the globe. What freedom, what a rush!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Peace in all its dimensions.
