In celebration of National Tap Dance Day, The NY Committee To Celebrate National Tap Dance Day will be hosting their 19th annual Production of Tap Extravaganza.
Flo-Bert Life Achievment Awards will be presented to Jean Bach, Maurice Hines and Peggy Spina on Sunday, May 25th at 7PM in the Haft Auditorium at the Fashion Institute of Technology (227 W27th Street, NYC).
The night will include music by The Frank Owen’s Trio and performances by Alex Cowings Group, Dance Alumni from Oklahoma City, Michelle Dorrance, Rod Ferrone, DeWitt Fleming Jr., Michela Lerman, Rhymutation, Chris Scott Company, Mable Lee and her Dancing Ladies, Peggy Spina Tap Company and Tap City Youth Ensemble.
Not only will there be celebrations in New York, but in New Jersey as well.
Deborah Mitchell, Founder and Artistic Director of NJTAP Dance Ensemble and Savion Glover Productions are teaming up to celebrate Nation Tap Dance Day 2008 in the Newark Symphony Hall on 1020 Broad Street in Newark, New Jersey.
From 1:00 – 2:30 PM Mr. Glover, NJTAP Artists and Special Guest will share with you oral histories and rare footage of tap dance.
From 2:45 – 5:00 PM there will be a tap teaching workshop for going beyond the combination.
The night will conclude with a live musical tribute to some of Broadway’s biggest tap shows (Black and Blue, Noise Funk, Jelly’s Last Jam).
All three events are only $30. Any one event is only $10.
