Cobi’s Place Shut Down
Tap Dancers now have no official place to jam in New York.
Cobi’s Place, which had been home to a regular tap jam was shut down recently. Here is an excerpt from the email that was distributed:
“As of today, Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, the Fire Department of New York City has closed down Cobi’s Place, due to the fact that there are not 2 stairways out of the place, in case of an emergency?
This is a sad day for tap dancers, especially in New York, who now have no place to gather and work on their craft. Thanks to Hillary-Marie for sharing this information with me.
Here are a couple of YouTube posts that I came across of the former tap jam at Cobi’s Place. The first is brief and grainy but it features Joseph Wiggan. The second & third feature Michela Lerman who, I think, gives a fitting tribute to Cobi’s Place with her dancing.
