Chicago Tap: “The Nut Tapper” Is On The Way!
The following information was submitted by Andrea Cordts regarding their upcoming Holiday performance.
Percussive Recreation of “The Nutcracker Suite” Will Run This Holiday Season
In its tenth year running, “The Nut Tapper,” a rhythmic recreation of Tchaikovsky’s classic “The Nutcracker Suite,” will be presented on December 14 at the famous Athenaeum Theater. The show stars world-renowned tap dancer Reggio “The Hoofer” McLaughlin, his dancers from the Old Town School of Folk Music and various other Chicago-area dance groups.
The brainchild of McLaughlin, a veteran tap dancer, “The Nut Tapper” loosely recreates the ballet classic with the percussive rhythms of tap, gypsy flamenco, Mexican Zapateado and clog dancing. The all-star cast features legendary vaudeville star Ernest “Brownie” Brown and internationally-known Flamenco dancer, Michelle “La Caoba” Nascimento.
“The first year we performed “The Nut Tapper” we had such an amazing response that we decided to do it again the next year,” says McLaughlin. “Ten years later and both the show and the audience continue to grow.”
The show will run at the Athenaeum Theater in Chicago on Sunday December 14 at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 for floor seats and $20 for balcony seats, and they can be purchased through the box offices at the Athenaeum Theater
