Just wanted to share a couple of videos I have been studying lately. The first features two incredible contemporary tap dancers, Joseph Wiggan & Jumaane Taylor engaged in a Tap Battle/cutting contest at the 2005 L.A. Tap Festival.
The second is the scene from the movie that most inspired me to want to be a tap dancer! It’s called Tap and if you haven’t seen it you can purchase it here: Tap (Widescreen Edition)
I just added a new video to www.eTapDance.com where I am explaining a wonderfully rhythmic & challenging Time Step.
eTapDance.com is my website where I am building a library of video lessons covering tap steps and teaching techniques that will help you and your students build on their tap strengths and correct their weaknesses! I am still in shock at the passing of Michael Jackson on yesterday afternoon. I write this post with watery eyes. No one can deny that he was one of the greatest entertainers ever. Oh how I wish I could see the jam session they are having on the other side right now!
It probably looks something like this. Enjoy these clips of Michael Jackson & the Jackson 5 performing alongside the Nicholas Brothers!
Here is another clip of Michael full out tap dancing that I had never seen before today (tapping starts at about 1:50)…what more can I say? He is the greatest.
Tesoro Delights The Audience – An exhilarating show involving an old theater being revived and mistaken identity, leading to mistaken love is what makes “Crazy for You” so crazy!
Tap-Happy Dance Style Clicks With Filmmaker – The movie “Thinking on Their Feet: Women of the Tap Renaissance”, will have its premiere next Sunday at the Wexner Center for the Arts. Check it out!
I hope everyone is having a great week. While I love tap I am glad to be recovering from the hectic pace of Black History Month when I was a part of over 25 tap performances at elementary schools, arts centers, & libraries all over Georgia. Hopefully, these performances will inspire more youth to consider taking up tap dancing!
Here are some articles that I recently came across that I hope you will find inspiring and exciting!
Quitting Tap? – Check out this honest and thoughtful post about a dancer’s choice to quit tap dancing. At some point we must all discover who we really are and honor that. Have you thought about how you would like to be remembered?
Learn tap and life lessons from Ms. Dorothy Dale Kloss – 85 year old dancer and performer! I hope to have her energy when I grow up too!
Savion Glover is at it again in New York City. Apparently he’s thrilling audiences with his new work “Solo In Time” is which he explores the intricacies of Flamenco music and rhythm as part of his show. You can catch reviews of this show here and here! At times like this I wish I were in NY!
Here is a clip that features highlights of Savion’s other recent work Bare Soundz!
